Tobacco Free Soccer

Project HACC teams up with the All County Soccer Club to promote a tobacco free policy at the Atoka Sports Complex. Amber Gammon and Kara Hendrickson set up at the Soccer fields to hand out promotional items to promote the new tobacco free policy that was passed at the Atoka Sports Complex. Amber worked closely with the ACSC board to promote no tobacco use at the fields. Waterbottles and Soccer balls with a tobacco free message were handed out to players and parents. This is a great partnership and we look forward to working with them annually to promote no tobacco use in soccer!!!!

Harmony Board passes a 24/7 NO Tobacco Policy
Jerry Speck and Kara Hendrickson spoke to the Harmony school board about a 24/7 tobacco free policy. The project has been working with Harmony school since the program began to pass a policy. The SWAT youth have been very instrumental in the promotion of events and activites that showcased the dangerous affects of tobacco use. We appreciate the school board and administration for recognizing the importance of protecting our youth.
SWAT Officers attend Camp WOW
SWAT youth from Atoka and Coal counties attend teambuilding event at Camp WOW in Stuart Oklahoma. Several SWAT youth particpated in the first annual Leadership Training to work on what it means to be an elected officer and how to work together as a team to meet goals and objectives. The SWAT youth watch training videos on topics from policy change to 24/7 to communication and many other topics. SWAT has been totally overhauled to make it more hands on this year. The group also particpated in a low ropes course to work on communication and teambuilding skills. Kara Hendrickson, SWAT Coordinator feels this event will help officers to know their roles and expectations of being a SWAT member. The kids had a great time and were able to take skills they learned and apply it to each of their individual teams.
Cottonwood SWAT picks up cigarette butts!
SWAT youth met during lunch to pick up cigarette butts around their campus. Cottonwood passed a 24/7 NO tobacco policy in 2008 but want to continue to enforce and promote the use of no tobacco on their school grounds. The youth feel it is important to continue education and awareness so students, staff and parents will be mindful of the policy that was put into place.
Wallace Byrd SWAT promotes 24/7
Wallace Byrd SWAT set up at a football game to hand out surveys asking if students, parents and staff were in favor of passing a 24/7 no tobacco policy for their school.  Results showed that 82.3% were in favor of having a policy in place that promotes no tobacco use on school grounds. The SWAT youth will work on training and presenting to the school board to present the findings of the survey and hopefully get the policy passed in January.
