Tushka SWAT Project 1200

Tushka Middle school SWAT blew up1200 hundred ballooons to represent the number of people that die each day from a tobacco related illness. This was in recognition of Kick Butts Day 2010. They gave a balloon to each K-8th grade student and had them release them at the end of the school day as a reminder of the loved ones we lose to tobacco use. Mrs. Candy Nordmark the adult partner presented to over 150 kids why SWAT was doing this event and the importance of not using tobacco. The SWAT youth also went into K-3rd grade classes to do presentations on how the tobacco industry markets their product to them as new potential customers. When the SWAT youth asked them why they target youth,Shakeya Keeton, 1st grader said" They make them look like candy and taste like Candy so we will want to use them" Each child received a pencil and color page about not using tobacco.
